High in the mountains of Tennessee, Sons of Hippies was conceived amid fellow music lovers at a festival on a 700-acre farm on a sunny June afternoon; their name originated when Brazilian native Jonas Canales and Florida-bred Katherine Kelly probed familial bonds to discover they were, indeed, children of hippies.
Joined by bassist David Daly in 2011, the Tampa-based trio signed to Cleopatra Records and recorded their national debut for release on July 16th, 2013. Griffons at the Gates of Heaven features Sons of Hippies' unique brand of trippy space-rock that fits alongside psychedelic revivalists like The Black Angels and Tame Impala while paying tribute to the poppier leanings of Metric and Silversun Pickups.
Griffons at the Gates of Hell was mixed by Jack Endino (Nirvana, Mudhoney) and mastered at Abbey Road Studios by Andy Walter (Radiohead, David Bowie, U2). The album is available at iTunes.
